Alternative therapy as a primary treatment may help in disorders. Cancer is not one of them. A study from Yale University revealed that patients with cancer have a greater risk of death if they use only alternative therapy instead of conventional cancer treatments. In their retrospective study of the National Cancer Database, 280 patients with lung, breast, prostate and colorectal cancers had chosen to receive alternative therapy, and these patients were matched against those undergoing conventional cancer treatment (560 patients). A greater risk of death (hazard ratio, 2.5) was associated with alternative medicine.
